In the current financial climate many
horse owners will be looking for ideas
on how to save money this winter. Buying
the cheapest product doesn’t always
mean you are saving money as you may end
up with an inferior item that does not
last long, or may not offer value for
money in the long term.
Hemcore horse bedding is grown and produced
in Great Britain and provides great value
when compared against its more traditional
competitor, woodshavings.
It is a natural, environmentally-friendly
product made from the inner core of the
hemp plant stem which is dried, chopped,
fully dust extracted and packed into heat-sealed
recyclable polythene bags.
Hemcore can prove to be significantly
cheaper than woodshavings. After initially
laying down the bed, only half as much
Hemcore is required in the weekly maintenance
of the bed. The droppings should be removed
regularly and the wet material can be
taken out less frequently. Mucking out
is made much quicker and easier. Less
mucking out, more time for riding!
As well as this saving, it is worth noting
that Hemcore has a higher absorbency than
straw or shavings, keeping the stable
drier for longer. As a result, a Hemcore
muck heap produces virtually no ‘run
off’ with the hemp locking in the
liquid in a much smaller muck heap. This
means the user saves on transport costs
when disposing of the muck heap as well
as having a safe and tidy yard. Once composted,
Hemcore has proved to be an excellent
garden mulch for use around plants or
as an agricultural manure that farmers
prefer to woodshavings.
