| TWO
EVENTING ELITES FOR BURY ST EDMUNDS EVENTING
YARD
There were three Elite premiums awarded at
the 2011 Baileys Horse Feeds/British Equestrian
Federation (BEF) Futurity at Crofton Manor on
Thursday. Two of these Elites in the Eventing
section went to event rider Marianne Ames. An
endurance two year old also achieved this highest
premium. An Elite premium indicates the horse
has the potential and outlook to perform at
international level
Patrick scored 9.04 in the eventing section
and Billy scored 9.00 to come second in this
section for Event rider Marianne Ames from Suffolk.
They both received Elite premiums. Former Olympic
eventer Bridget Parker, together with fellow
evaluator Sheri Tozer Robb agreed that both
of the elite scoring eventing foals were balanced,
athletic, confident and a good modern stamp.
Patrick took the top score of the day at Crofton
Manor.
Marianne said “after the recent success
we had with RCA Red Rock at the Writtle Futurity
(he scored a Higher First premium of 8.61) we
were keen take our two foals to Crofton Manor.
I am so pleased they have both received this
highest premium. It is so good to hear that
they have so much potential”. Both Patrick
and Billy are by the prolific sports horse sire
Grafenstolz. Patrick is out of Summers Mist
who was Marianne’s pony club horse that
she competed in jumping competitions and went
on to be successful at 2* eventing. Billy is
out of an Animo mare Temple Polly. Temple Polly
was bred for show-jumping, she is also a brilliant
mover.
Patrick and Billy will both be left entire
for the meantime and are both for sale. Marianne
said “they are for sale, but I’m
not actively advertising them. If they are not
sold I will break them in once they are old
enough and start competing them.” Both
foals have been staying at the Pelion Stud in
Reading and will come back to Horringer in the
winter.
The second highest scoring horse of the day
the endurance two year old colt Amber Gambler,
achieved an Elite score of 9.00 for owner and
breeder Louise Graham. EGB member Sallie Dudley,
who accompanied the evaluating panel for the
endurance horses said the colt had “a
light, ground covering trot, good strong rectangular
frame and easy fluent movement which was balanced
and economical”.
Louise bred Amber Gambler from her pure bred
Arab mare, Bright Dreamer, by Drongo. Bred by
Miss Bowditch, Bright Dreamer was a talented
endurance horse and Louise’s daughter
Laura Graham rode her at advanced level. She
had completed 90kms in one day and had just
been registered for FEI level competitions when
she injured herself in the field. As a result
Louise decided to breed from her. Amber Gambler
is the first foal she had and he is sired by
the international showing champion stallion,
H Tobago.
Louise said “we hope to take Amber Gambler
out on the endurance circuit, Laura will ride
him. He will start novice level rides when he
is five and hopefully progress through to FEI
level. My long term plan is to keep Amber Gambler
entire and breed from him. I have several well
bred endurance mares and hope to set up a stud
in the future with Ambler Gambler as the foundation
stallion”.
Top dressage mark of the day went to Laura Bow’s
Leading Lady, a two year old filly, she took
a Higher First premium of 8.93. Laura, from
Hampshire bred Leading Lady from her thoroughbred
mare Wight Isabella, who she originally bought
to compete. Wight Isabella unfortunately injured
herself so Laura decided to breed from her.
Laura now has a three year old by First Junior
and Leading Lady from Wight Isabella. Laura
said "I bred the first foal from Wight
Isabella and then decided I wanted another one
with a bit more movement, so I went back to
the Nijhof Stud in Holland and chose to use
Spielberg as the sire for the next one. I am
so pleased at how Leading Lady has turned out."
This is the first time Laura has been to the
Futurity and the opinion of the highly experienced
evaluators there has confirmed her belief of
the potential Leading Lady has.
Laura runs the Kennels Farm livery yard and
also breaks in and brings on young horses. Wight
Isabella is now in foal to the coloured stallion
Longslade Timberwolf and Laura is now thinking
of putting her back in foal to Spielberg again
next year as Leading Lady has turned out so
well.
A colt foal from Dorset was best of the showjumpers,
Mrs K Turton’s Put On Rametti. His score
of 8.79 and a Higher First premium indicates
that he has the potential and outlook to perform
at national level. Mrs Turton bred Put On Rametti
from her homebred mare Put On Ramillo, known
as Millie at home. Millie is by KWPN show-jumping
sire Ramexico and is five years old, she will
be broken in later on this year and compete
in show-jumping and Working Hunter classes.
She is a British Sports Horse and has been graded
in the SHB studbook following her own success
at the Futurity in 2008. Millie was the highest
scoring potential show-jumper at the 2008 Catherston
Stud Futurity. Put On Rametti is by Holstein
show-jumping stallion Andretti. Mrs Turton said
“I chose to put Millie to Andretti as
he has phenomenal breeding – he is by
the famous stallion Landgraf”.
Mrs Turton went on to say, “Put On Rametti
is a stallion prospect, I will keep him and
when he is old enough we will break him in and
hopefully young rider Robert Clover will produce
him and compete him. I like the Futurity as
it is carried out in a controlled environment,
there is no hanging around and I value the feedback
given by the evaluators”.
